Targeting Good Health

SCREENING PATIENTS FOR DIABETES AT HEALTH FAIRS CAN BE VERY REVEALING. DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC, WE HAVE THE ADDED BURDEN OF SEEING PATIENTS WHO ARE ESTABLISHED DIABETICS: type 2 PATIENTS AND HAVE WEAKENED IMMUNITY. 

History of frequent coughs and colds, low Hemoglobin, low W.B.C.’s, loss of weight.

The following steps are made to achieve the best target of good health: 

1. MEALS MUST BE ON TIME: Avoiding food whilst working hard can create a high steroid or stressful state in the body to create overweight leading to severe stresses on the joints even when off your feet & severe stomach ulcers. The first meal in the am. must be within the hour is important. 

  • Immunity goes down due to sustained stress, pains, lack of sleep or infections. 

2. REDUCE STARCH: Small amounts of RICE, FLOUR, IRISH POTATO – high Glycemic foods, can be changed to YAM, BOILED BANANAS, SWEET POTATOES, BREADFRUIT, DASHEEN, EDDOES or COCO, CASSAVA is preferred. These are all fibrous and are slowly absorbed. Juices including coconut water can give a quick rise of sugar which can be dangerous and must be avoided. For the daily APPLE PER DAY, I permit my patients to use one fruit each meal or 1 glass coconut water per day – rest water only. 

Remember quantity: one small piece of starch. 

EXCESS STARCH INFLICTS PAINS, AND PROPAGATE INFECTIONS, both connected to reduced immunity. 

3. REDUCE PROTEIN: Whatever the Protein, this can be chosen by you. If you are VEGAN – half of a cup of DAHL or CHANNA (chickpeas) at each meal is sufficient. ONE EGG/ONE PIECE CHICKEN/2 TABLESPOONS OF MEAT (curried)/HALF A SLICE OF FISH/1/2CUP OF MILK (COW’S OR ALMOND) 

  • Too much leads to gout, damage to the kidney and joints; too little of no protein leads to malnutrition and reduced immunity. 

4. DRINK 7 – 8 GLASSES WATER (AVOID JUICES – One fruit per day permitted, PLENTY VEGETABLES (- raw or steamed or boiled) GREEN JUICES ARE EXCELLENT. 4 oz. fruit juice/day is permitted instead of a small fruit. 

  • Too little water can lead to dehydration, and unresponsive infections 

5. EXERCISE: 15 to 30 minutes daily AEROBIC AND STRENGTH. SIMPLY WALKING NON-STOP FOR 10 to 15 MINS. DAILY OR GARDENING CAN PERFORM MIRACLES. ENJOY THE EXERCISE WITHOUT RUSH, SMILE AT NATURE OR YOURSELF IN THE MIRROR – GIVING THANKS TO GOD. 

  • Strengthen muscles. Diabetes and Sugar level are reduced to the advantage of those who obey the rules, but IMMUNITY is reduced for those who don’t. 

6. SEVEN (7) to EIGHT (8) HOURS OF GOOD SLEEP WILL PROVIDE RESTORATION / RECOVERY of all bodily systems. Healing of the PANCREAS AND JOINTS, apart from the BRAIN, HEART, KIDNEYS AND NERVES. 

  • LACK of 8 hours RESTORATIVE SLEEP can reduce Healing and Immunity. 

7. PAINS: If possible use safe analgesics, instead of STEROIDS or N.S.A.I.D.S. N.B. Pains increase the sugar level. 

  • VICE-VERSA: EXCESS SUGAR LEVELS in the blood cause temporary pains, however if not controlled effectively, and sustained long, can lead to permanent NEUROPATHY. 

8. INFECTIONS: must be dealt with – WORMS, DENTAL, RESPIRATORY, GENITOURINARY, SKIN and NAILS to name a few. N.B. All infections increase the blood sugar level. 

  • If not treated properly & early , will get worse & reduce immunity 

9. REDUCE ALL UNNECESSARY STRESS: A. Financial / Work B. Health C. Relationship D. Anxiety / Depression. These stresses can cause serious blood sugar elevations or weight gain issues. 

  • Identifying these can be done by repeating the last four lines of the Lord’s Prayer e.g. FOR THINE IS THE KINGDOM, THE POWER and THE GLORY, FOREVER and EVER, AMEN. (In meditation and spiritual guidance, we can identify and learn to release whatever is our mental focus) 

10. LET GO & LET GOD: PUT THE ALMIGHTY FIRST – Chill out, Come away from the incessant work, commitments, stresses incurred from SELF or CIRCUMSTANCES. Planning for our Peace of Mind, Worship, Prayers, Music, Dances, Smiling and Laughter, Yoga Exercises, Meditation can all assist. FIND A METHOD THAT WILL BRING US JOY! 

  • These are real IMMUNE – BOOSTERS. Anyone who chooses to be Superior or Inferior to his or her humanity is heading for disaster ultimately. The body benefits from PEACE. All parts are benefited: BRAIN, HEART, ENDOCRINE and STOMACH to name a few.
