Hame C. Persaud MD, OD

A Guyanese born; naturalized Jamaican graduated from the University of the West Indies (Mona) in 1969. He achieved his bachelor’s degree in Medicine and Surgery (M.B.B.S) and developed an all-rounded interest in people. His work took him to Georgetown Hospital in Guyana, where he did his internship (1969 – 1970), and general practice at Prashad’s Hospital (1970-1971). He served a government contract locum (1972-1973), gaining experience from Dr. Arthur Wint in Lucea, and Mandeville Public Hospital.
He hails from a Hindu background and is a founding member of UWI Hindu Society (1962), Prema Satsangh of Jamaica (1973), and has been conducting a free medical clinic in an under privileged area of Kingston, Jamaica since 1978.
AWARDS
- Kanti Marg Award (1993) – For meritorious social services to the Hindu community in the Caribbean.
- Order of Distinction, O.D. (2005) – by the government of Jamaica for meritorious service – running a free medical clinic in an underprivileged area on the first Sunday of each month for over 30 years .
- Wellness Award (2007) – by the Environmental Health Foundation for propagating lifestyle interventions and meditation.
